Andrew and Dominic – Our Story – Meeting the Parents

I have to start by saying that I did not have much experience with serious boyfriends before meeting Dominic.  He and I met in February and I had agreed to take Dominic to his parents for Easter since he didn’t drive.  This was to be the first time meeting is very Catholic parents.  I will confess to being a little nervous. The drive from Milwaukee where he and I were living to Green Bay was a little nerve racking.  Dominic of course said all the usual things.  When we arrived, his mom and dad came out to greet us and they … Continued

Andrew and Dominic – Our Story – When I Knew I Was in Love

After Dominic and I spent out first night together, I had to leave on a business trip.  The following morning, I packed and got on a plane to Mexico City.  It was a very busy week.  At the time I was working for a retailer and we were opening a store in the central city.  By the time I got on the plane for the return trip, I was so happy to be coming home, I can’t describe it.  Dominic and I had a date night scheduled for the Friday after I got home and we had a very nice … Continued

Andrew and Dominic – Our Story – Our First Night Together

After the liver dinner, the other guests left and Dominic and I ended up talking until the wee hours of the morning.  We talked about everything, except liver.  I did tell him about my dairy problem and poor Dominic was appalled.  I felt so bad because I didn’t want to hurt his feelings.   The dinner, other than the liver part, had been one of the best means I’d ever had.  I’d just had to eat very little of it. Anyway, I’d like to say that one thing led to another, or that things got very romantic.  But basically I began … Continued

Andrew and Dominic – Our Story – Dominic Cooks for Me

A few days after our first date, Dominic called to invite me to his apartment for a dinner party.  He wanted to reciprocate to the people who had had us over.  (The matchmakers)  I thought it wonderful.  I was asked to arrive early which I thought was sweet and we talked while he continued cooking.  The table was set beautifully for four in his small dining room.  And he nervously made sure everything was perfect. The other guests arrived and Dominic indicated that dinner was ready.  As soon as we sat down I knew I was in trouble.  The … Continued

Our Weddding – Take 1

In honor of marriage equality on Pennsylvania, I wanted to share a brief story.  In 1996 Dominic and I had a commitment ceremony.  We both figured it was as close to a wedding as either of us were going to get in our lifetimes.  We had 60 guests and the ceremony was held in the back yard of our house and our neighbors.  Both Dominic’s and my parents attended as did our brothers and sisters.  The support we received was unbelievable.  We had coworkers and even my boss at the time and his wife.  It was a lovely summer day … Continued

Andrew and Dominic – Our Story – Our First Date

I have to start this section off with a little bit about myself in order for it to make sense.  See I’m lactose intolerant.  Like Leonard form my favorite television show, feed me ice cream and I can rocket to the moon.  So anyway, after our initial dinner party meeting, Dominic waited a few days to call me.  (He told me later he didn’t want to look desperate by calling too soon.)  He suggested we go out for desert.  At the time Dominic wasn’t driving, so I met him at his apartment.  I was expecting that he’d made something for … Continued

Andrew and Dominic – Our Story – How We Met

I’ve been asked, so I’ve decided to tell Dominic’s and my love story.  Dominic and I met at a friends’ dinner party.  The entire evening was set up so the two of us could meet.  Jim and Paul are a pair of Yentas and adore playing matchmaker.  As far as I know Dominic and I are their only success.  Anyway, the evening of the party was the coldest night of the year, it had to be twenty below zero, but the dinner party was fun, the conversation lively, and interesting.  I remember thinking that Dominic was really cute.  He’d a little over … Continued

My Garden

Over the years one of the things I have done at each house Dominic and I have owned is garden.  At the house we currently have, there is a side garden tucked between two retaining walls.  When we moved in, I designed the layout of the plants, cleared the entire space, and planted all of the shrubs, perennials and even added statuary and a fountain. That was only the beginning.  Dominic and I spent many weekends cutting out overgrown shrubs, small trees, overgrown bushes.  Then we replanted the front yard and finally the back.  For the three years it took … Continued

BA Tortuga Stops By to Talk About The Terms of Release

Coming Out and Going Home Hey, y’all! How goes it? First and foremost, I want to thank Andrew for hosting me on his blog. He is one of my favorite people on earth and I love him more than I love my luggage (trust me, it’s a compliment – I have purple luggage with green olives. I adore it). I was sitting and pondering life how much mine has changed in the last few years. I’ve moved. We’ve lost Julia’s dad. I came out of the closet. We have our first grandnephew, my baby-iest sister got married. J and … Continued
